Cason- Strengths and Weaknesses Gregory- Hits and Misses

Strengths and Challenges

The strengths that I have as a writer are the flows of ideas that comes up to my head as I’m writing. When I start writing, I always have too much ideas floating around the sentences every time. But I realized that it could be a sign of good writing. I was well at explaining the plot of the events which contributed to a better writing than it used to be. It’s also better to have this strength as a writer because even if there is a bunch of different ideas on the writing, I can look over it again to make sure if there are anything that doesn’t make sense or connect to the ideas that I’m explaining to the reader. It means that it also contributes to a better editing skill.  Even though my strengths can improve my other skills during my writing, I have trouble editing after I start organizing some of the sentences in the paragraphs. The most important cause could be because of the issue of my organization and my word choice. I tend to repeat the same thing over and over again...

Hits and Misses

The piece of writing that I enjoyed this year was the personal narrative. It was somewhat difficult but somewhat enjoyable at the same time. The most enjoyable part of this essay was when I had to describe the details of what happened throughout the events for my topic. I also enjoyed the revisions because it required me to think more about the specific events. The part where I felt like I grew the most during this assignment was when I had to edit and find the better format so I can make it a better essay. In addition to the success and enjoyment that I had during the essay, it also gave me a chance to grow as a better writer.              The piece of writing that was the most struggling for me was the literally analysis. It gave me a lot of time just to finish my rough draft. I think the reason why I struggled was because I had to find the specific evidences from the book, which ate up my time I needed to edit my dra...

Saad- Reading Response for PH Peyton- power rangers

Are you distracted by technology?

I always get distracted by technologies especially when I'm working on my homework. Sometimes I get distracted by them even if I have homeworks that takes me hours and hours. Rather than looking at random websites, I choose to turn on some music to focus on my homework. It works well for the first few minutes but not for long. I start to focus on the music that I'm listening. So the good option for me is to not use any technologies at all.  But if I don't use any technologies, I can't focus either because I need some noise to make me focus. The best time for me to do my homework and assignments is when I'm rushing and stressing myself out. I would have a pressure of finishing my homework on time which causes me to focus for a long time. But it's a common sense that stress can be bad for your body.

Reading response to Purple Hibiscus

Purple Hibiscus is causing me some troubles so far. I couldn't understand the scene where Jaja and other people went to the funeral because the wordings sounded too abstract to me. But it was interesting to see the contrast between Kambili before and after going to Nsukka even though some things didn't change like how Papa is dedicated to his religious views because I knew that Kambili was affected by his violence during the first part of the book. I also felt uncomfortable about how Papa acted in front of the public and in front of his family members. Papa has good reputations from the people in public because of his awards and his donations to charities. But he acted totally different in front of his family members by forcing them to go to church and giving severe punishments.

Is Global Warming Real?

I chose an article called, "Is Global Warming Real?" from National Geographic. This article explains about how the temperature change is affecting the climates around the world. The author indicates some of the reasons why the temperature is rising, such as the greenhouse gases and some particles from the volcano. I chose to read about this topic because I've studied about how the greenhouse gases are affecting the environment in the world during my biology class. I was also interested to read the articles from National Geographic since I liked how it focuses on the natures of the world. But just like how the author mentioned in the article, the debate still continues. Different people believe different facts that could be the possible reason for the global warming. The author of the article didn't specify the reasons for the global warming, just the evidences that the places on earth are warming up. I can agree to the author's explanation about how greenhouse g...

Addi- Pen and Paper Julia- Purple Hibiscus

Creative Post

I always get really annoyed when people ask me about my background. Most of the people who asked me about it tend to assume my ethnicity that is not always true. It was always, "You're Chinese, right?" or "I can tell you're Chinese or Korean". Sometimes they even went up to me and said, "Nee Hao". But because it's extremely complicated, I always answered them quickly which wasn't a hundred percent correct. I've only explained the entire story to someone who I felt comfortable sharing. I learned from this experience that it makes people feel offended by assuming their cultures. But I know that people aren't trying to make me feel upset. It gave me a chance to reflect back to what I'm saying to other people to make sure if they're okay to say. But people don't always take something the way I take when I say it to them. I might have said something offensive to someone without noticing how they felt about me saying them. E...

Reading Response to Purple Hibiscus

I think Purple Hibiscus  is an interesting novel to me so far. I liked how Papa's attitude toward Christianity is different than the attitude that Jaja makes toward Christianity. But I was confused when I read the scene where Papa gets annoyed of Jaja skipping the church because I was wondering why Papa forces Jaja to go to the church. But I can tell that Jaja is not a kind of person who are being lazy all the time when I read page 23. Jaja said, "We will take care of the baby; we will protect him"(23). It shows how Jaja is wanting to keep his responsibility to take care of the baby who will be born in October. This sentence changed the way I saw him compared to the way I saw him before reading this page. Papa is also strict at other things too, not just about the religion. He stops his people from using certain words in public. But even though Papa is a strict person, he becomes abusive sometimes when he broke Mama's figurine. I, as a reader of Purple Hibiscus, fe...

JC- Analyze a Song Peyton- Poem of sports

Poem

He listened to the smooth sound, hiding in the nature. She studied quietly, while listening to a lecture. I ran through the road, thinking about the future. They tried to pay back, with an unsuspecting torture. What did I do, when I was there. What did you do, when you were there. Tools: Euphony, End-Rhyme, Anaphora, Caesura

Analyze a Song

Rihanna - Umbrella I chose the song "Umbrella" by Rihanna because I liked the rhythm of this song. In this song, the rhymes and an anaphora contributes to the strong relationships between one and other. You're part of my entity , here for infinity The words "entity" and "infinity" rhymes because they both have the tee sounds. It contributes to the song by its strong emphasis toward the "you" in the lyric. It allows the audience to recognize the emotion for a certain person in the song. The other important rhyme in this song is in this line, Now that it's raining more than ever Know that we still have each other The why in this line creates an emphasis toward the nature and the relationships. It shows that the rain made their relationships better and created deep bonds.  Come into me It's pouring rain It's pouring rain Come into me Come into me It's pouring rain It's pouring rain The Anaphora in this line ...

Emma P-Free Post Juliana-Q3: Week 7 Launch Posts

Free Post

Since I was a baby, my relatives have pushed me to a part of the Christian community. My family did not do anything about Christianity, but I always associated with Christianity because of my aunts and uncles. My uncle was raised in a Christian family from England and Germany. My aunt grew up in a Christian family as well. They always told me to be respectful to God. They made me feel confused because even though my family didn't do anything about Christianity, I had to believe in God because of my relatives. We also gathered around on the holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter to worship.  I used to think that it was a waste of time for me to follow them. But now that I know a lot about Christianity, it gave me a lot of chance to see a different perspectives that people have. I've talked to other people who were in the situation but most of them tell me that it wasn't that big of a deal.

LAUNCH response

Out of all the presentations, I found interesting about the one about diversity in BlackBox. She picked two people from the audience to complete the puzzle. She started talking right after they started it so I didn't know why she asked them to do it. But she then started talking about the designs of their puzzles. One of them was an illustration of the world map and the other one was just green. I couldn't imagine how hard it was to finish a puzzle that just have green pieces. I found it interesting because it was a great idea for her to show the diversity. It would be really boring to have the pieces with just a single color, but it would be fun and unique to have colorful pieces with the special designs for each of them. Finding a good example to show the audience is challenging because it has to be sophisticated and understandable.

Research Post

My research topic is about Islamophobia. Islamophobia is a type of non-Muslim people who are disrespecting the Muslims. Islamophobia is a serious problem in our modern society especially because of the many violence that Islamists did around the world, who claim to be a Muslim. In my research paper, I will answer my research question how do violent acts done in the name of Islam go against the principles of Islam?  How has this contributed to Islamophobia?  Just about few decades ago, people didn't really know anything about Islam or things that are related to Islam unless you are Muslim or related to Muslim society. But in our society that we currently I've in, people have made many mistakes about Islam and so does the Islamists. They are both misinterpreting in their own way. I found it interesting to try to find out what was going through the Islamophobic society.

Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is going well for me. I liked how Junior and Rowdy were together for the whole. It made me feel like I want a friend like him. But it all changed quickly when Junior was serious about going to Reardan for new school. Rowdy got really mad at him but Junior was very serious about his decision. It was so sad to see their relationship go bad even though they were together for a long time.  I also liked the part where he hits the leader with his book in the face. But I was surprised to see the leader acting so strange to him. The drawing on the book was engaging for the reader to read because its comical and funny. Also, the fact that the words were informal makes the reader think like it's written toward people who are close in terms of relationship.
